Redfern Now Finale Is A Telemovie

The ABC has announced that the final instalment of its award-winning series “Redfern Now” will be a standalone telemovie entitled Promise Me.

Set to go into production tomorrow, Promise Me will “explore the impact of a violent crime on two women and the fight for justice that ensues”. The screenplay was penned by AACTA award-winning writer Steven McGregor and is being directed by Bran Nue Dae‘s Rachel Perkins.

“The ABC is thrilled to have ‘Redfern Now’ back in production. The story will resonate with the fans of the show and is ripe for our favourite characters to further develop in the telemovie format,” said ABC TV’s Sally Riley in a statement.

“This will bring to a close the ‘Redfern Now’ franchise, but the ABC’s commitment to Indigenous content and the development of the Indigenous screen industry in the future will continue.”

Anthony Hayes, Daniella Farinacci and Genevieve Lemon will join established cast members Deborah Mailman, Wayne Blair, Rarriwuy Hick, Lisa Flanagan, Kelton Pell and Kirk Page as they reprise their roles on the first drama series written, directed and produced by Indigenous Australians.

“Redfern Now” is produced by Blackfella Films in association with ABC TV and Screen Australia.
