X-Men Writers Board the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Reboot

If you’re going to reboot a franchise about young people in colorful outfits saving the world, you might as well get some people who have done it before. The recently announced live-action movie based on “The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” has new talent involved: Roberto Orci, who helped reboot the new Star Trek franchise, and screenwriters Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz, who wrote the screenplay for X-Men: First Class.

Roberto Orci will executive produce the new Power Rangers movie and will develop the story along will Miller and Stentz, who also penned the drafts of Thor and several episodes of Orci’s sci-fi television series “Fringe.” Orci will be developing Power Rangers without the aid of his longtime co-writer and co-producer Alex Kurtzman now that the two writers have separated and moved onto new projects. Roberto Orci was also recently announced as the director of Star Trek 3, which will be his feature film directorial debut.

Although the “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers” brand is almost impossibly long, spanning multiple TV series and a variety of leading characters, Hollywood Reporter is stating that the new movie will “completely re-envision the Rangers.”

In other words… it really is morphin’ time.
