James Cameron Confirms Sigourney Weaver Will Return For Avatar Sequels

Canadian director and filmmaker James Cameron recently confirmed that actress Sigourney Weaver will appear in the next three “Avatar” sequels.

Weaver played Grace Augustine in the first hugely successful installment of “Avatar” back in 2009. The sequels are scheduled for release in December 2016, December 2017 and December 2018. Weaver had already worked with Cameron before on the iconic sci-fi flicks “Aliens” of which there were four installments.

“Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made ‘Aliens.’ We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the ‘Avatar’ sequels,” Cameron said in a statement to film industry publication The Hollywood Reporter (CBC News). “We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration.”

“Avatar,” which also starred Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, and Michelle Rodriguez, is the highest-grossing film of all time. It won three Academy Awards out of the nine it was nominated for (for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects).
