Disney Puts James Cameron’s Often-Delayed ‘Avatar’ Sequel in the ‘Waiting’ Pool

If it seems like we’ve been waiting forever for James Cameron‘s follow-up to Avatar, it’s because we have. The subterranean sequel was originally set for a 2014 release.
Now it appears we will have to tread a bit longer before we return to the water world of Pandora. Disney, who recently bought the bulk of 21st Century Fox’s film and television assets in a $71.3 billion mega-merger, recently announced their upcoming film slate, which revealed that Avatar 2 has been pushed back yet another year.
While some might look at the delay as a bad sign, there really is no cause for concern as epics from visionaries (read: madmen) like Cameron take time, but it’s also no coincidence that the announcement comes on the heels of the release of the one movie (Avengers) that can top the original film’s box office score. If we had to guess, Disney wants to do it right, as Evans and the Avengers have become the new measuring stick.
