Google has released video footage of its self-driving car in action, and the results are undoubtedly impressive.
Google has been working on the new technology, which provides fully autonomous driving that can take passengers to their destinations via a simple press of a button, for a relatively short period of time, though the company states that it'll have these cars on the road within the year.
The above video sees a group of volunteers hired to test out the new driving experience, and highlights the surprising smoothness of the ride the self-driving car provides. According to Google, 700,000 miles of public roads have already been covered with prototype builds of these vehicles, with these initial tests proving to be a huge success.
The car can seat two people, with its initial speed limit being set to 40km/h to ensure the safety of its passengers. The vehicle will operate on a customized version of Google Maps, and will use a combination of lasers, motion sensors and camera data in order to successfully maneuver around roads without bumping into other vehicles/pedestrians. It is already being championed as a great way to cut down on pollution, and is being touted as a revolutionary step forward for transport in general.
