The Fallout: Chapman, LeCras, Roughead Cop AFL Bans

A host of big name AFL guns were handed suspensions by the Match Review Panel on Monday for a bunch of painful Round 8 on-field bumps.

Hawthorn forward Jarryd Roughead received a one-week ban for his third quarter bump on Ben McGlynn, further bad news for a Hawks side heading into their bye round carrying injuries to stars Sam Mitchell, Luke Hodge, Brian Lake and now Cyril Rioli, out for a month with a hamstring injury sustained against the Swans.

Essendon recruit Paul Chapman will also miss a week after the AFL MRP deemed his elbow to the chin of Tom Rockliff enough to spend some time on the sidelines.

West Coast small forward Mark LeCras could see his two-week ban for a high bump on Giant Will Hoskin-Elliott reduced to a game with an early plea while Bulldog Liam Jones, initially given three weeks for the below hit on Melbourne’s Dean Terlich, will miss just the two games with a similar early plea.

Fremantle’s Paul Duffield was the lone big name to escape a suspension due to a six-year good record, escaping penalty for a hit on Port Adelaide match-winner Chad Wingard.

In other AFL news, Essendon big man Jake Carlisle may receive a dressing down from the club after a poor choice of words on SEN radio on Sunday.

Carlisle was pulled up for dropping the ‘F bomb’ while discussing the on-field tactics on Brisbane opponent Darcy Gardiner in a pre-recorded interview on the radio station’s ‘Sunday Sesh’ program, which appears to have accidently been played on air despite the hosts asking him to start his answer again.

“It was just a little young fella … he just gave it to me, so I said ‘mate, f— I’m ready to go’, so yeah he wasn’t happy about it,” Carlisle said on SEN.

“I was just taking out my frustrations in the chat there because he just, he was a little p—- that bloke,” Carlisle said of Gardiner.

“He’s in my SuperCoach (team). He’d want to pull his head in or he’s gone.”
