Assassin’s Creed Movie Hires Shakespeare Director

The Assassin’s Creed movie is finally coming together. Hell, it better, since it’s supposed to come out in 2015

X-Men: Days of Future Past star Michael Fassbender is on board to play Desmond, a bartender kidnapped by Abstergo Industries and forced into The Animus, a machine that allows him to relive his past life as an assassin to uncover a potentially world-changing secret, Out of Sight screenwriter Scott Frank is writing the screenplay, and now according to Deadline we finally have a director: Justin Kurzel. But who is Justin Kurzel?

Justin Kurzel is the director of Macbeth, the upcoming Shakespeare adaptation that – funnily enough – stars Michael Fassbender as the title character. If he’s good enough to direct a film based on one of the greatest writers in the history of the planet, he’s bound to be a perfect fit for a sci-fi historical fiction movie based on a video game, right?

After all, just look at Mike Newell. He directed adaptations of Charles Dickens and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, so naturally his film adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time turned out… okay? Kind of? Maybe?

Well, Justin Kurzel, we wish you luck. We’ll be back to judge your work in 2015. Don’t worry. We WANT to like this movie. We just also have to be honest if it totally sucks.
