A&E Orders ‘Bates Motel’ Season 3

No matter what insanity unfolds in the remaining episodes of “Bates Motel” Season 2, Norman and Norma Bates will be back next year.

A&E has officially announced a third season pickup for “Bates Motel,” which will return with ten new episodes in early 2015. “Bates Motel” is a modern prequel and reimagining of Psycho that chronicles the early years of Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his infamous mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga). Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke and Nestor Carbonell co-star in the series.

In a statement, A&E Executive Vice President, David McKillop said “The incredible writing team and talented ‘Bates Motel’ cast has made this series one of the most compelling original dramas on television. The brilliant twists and turns of the past two seasons keep its loyal fan base coming back for more. We are so proud of the show.”

“Bates Motel” Season 2 premiered with 4.6 million viewers across all platforms. However, that success did not extend to “Those Who Kill,” a new A&E serial killer drama that immediately followed “Bates Motel” on Monday nights.

With “Those Who Kill” shipped over to Lifetime, A&E will presumably be on the lookout for another original drama that can serve as a companion piece to “Bates Motel.”

The second season of “Bates Motel” continues tonight on A&E.
