Adidas Plans To Give Money To The Fastest NFL Prospect

Those attending the NFL scouting combine this week have a lot to prove. Evidently, so do the folks at Adidas.

According to the athletic brand, they’re willing to give $100,000 to the player who can run the fastest 40-yard dash at the combine. There’s just one catch: the player must be wearing the new Adidas adizero 5-Star 40 cleat.

“This weekend in Indianapolis is the biggest stage for speed and with adidas owning the lightest cleat in football – the adizero 5-Star – we wanted to make a statement,” said Jeremy Darlow, senior brand and digital marketing manager for adidas Football.

Of course the big question will be just how many athletes at the combine will be willing to purchase the new cleats and then try out in front of dozens of scouts with them on. I know if it were me, being a poor college student — even if I were on the verge of possibly signing a multi-million dollar contract — what is there to lose? I’m doing it! There’s $100,000 on the line. It’s a free lottery ticket — at least if you’re fast. No doubt this is a fairly genius marketing ploy from Adidas.

You can buy the adizero 5-Star 40 cleat is here for $150.

The NFL Combine is the premiere determiner on just how high most draft picks will be selected in the annual NFL Draft, therefore workouts such as the 40-yard dash are incredibly significant.
