Originally pitched to FX, “Salem” is coming to WGN America as its first original drama series, set against the backdrop of the Salem witch trials of 1892. Although in this version of reality, there were not only real witches in Salem, the witches were also mainipulating the trials for their own agenda.

Janet Montgomery (“Human Target”) stars as Mary Sibley, the most powerful witch in Salem; with Shane West (“Nikita”) as war veteran John Alden; Seth Gabel (“Fringe”) as Cotton Mather, one of the leaders of the witch hunt and Xander Berkeley (“24”) as Magistrate Hale, one of Salem’s Selectman. Ashley Madekwe, Tamzin Merchant and Elise Eberle also star in “Salem.”

WGN America has released the first full trailer for “Salem,” which will run for 13 episodes in its first season. The trailer offers a taste of what’s to come while hinting at the witches’ true agenda.
