Boxing War? Anthony Mundine Has Café Burnt Down, Fenech Questioned

Boxa, the sports memorabilia café of Australian boxer Anthony Mundine burnt to the ground in a firebombing attack earlier this week.

Mundine lost his business and a 20-year collection of rugby league and boxing memorabilia. The worst part? The café wasn’t insured.

Aussie boxing lengend Jeff Fenech admitted to being questioned by police about his whereabouts on the night Mundine’s business was attacked.

“A guy from the arson squad rang me,” Fenech said. “I just told him I was in bed when it happened.”

The two had been involved a public stoush after Fenech lost $460,000 attempting to keep Shane Mosley in the country late last month for the American’s scheduled fight with Mundine. Mosley bailed from Sydney airport the night of the fight after his $1 million match purse hadn’t been paid in full.

While Fenech wasn’t pleased Mundine said he “didn’t care” about the financial loss suffered in the original Mosley showdown, the 49-year-old felt “really bad” about Mundine’s business, calling it “bloody terrible”.

“I knew it had to happen (the police call) after what’s been said between us in the papers and in the media,” Fenech, a man who is no stranger to violent attacks, told The Courier-Mail.

Fenech was attacked and stabbed by four men in 2004 and later that year had his house shot at.

The event comes as Mundine prepares to finally take on Mosley. Their latest bout is scheduled for Sydney on the 27th.

“I don’t know if this is to deter me from my fight and my event,” Mundine said the day after his café was destroyed.

“I know I’ve got credibility in the streets and I’ll stay positive. The memorabilia hurts. It’s priceless. Gloves I fought in and other valuable items.”

“This has only made me more motivated but I’ll keep my bombs for the fight (against Shane Mosley).”
