Drew Goddard May Write The ‘Daredevil’ Series on Netflix

Last week, Marvel and Netflix announced a blockbuster original programming deal that will bring four original series to Netflix beginning in 2015, with a team-up miniseries to follow. It’s widely expected that the Daredevil series will go first, since he is most well known hero among the group including Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones.

According to The Wrap, Drew Goddard is in negotiations to write the “Daredevil” series for Netflix, presumably as the showrunner as well. Goddard’s geek cred is very high after his stints on “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Alias,” “Angel” and “Lost.” Goddard also co-wrote and directed The Cabin In The Woods and contributed to the World War Z script.

Goddard is also a huge fan of Daredevil, who once told Collider that “You’re talking to a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his wall while growing up. Even when I was 18, I still had the blood red door with the, ‘I have shown him that a man without hope is a man without fear.’ That was what I loved and so it’s the sort of thing that if we can find the right project, I would love to do it.”

Daredevil was previously adapted as a movie by director Mark Steven Johnson with Ben Affleck as the title character. It was not the most faithful adaptation of the character, but if Goddard is involved with the “Daredevil” Netflix series then it may be a truer representation of that comic.

Once all four characters have starred in their respective 13 episode series on Netflix, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones will team up for an 8 episode Defenders miniseries.
