HBO Renews ‘Boardwalk Empire’ For Season 5

Last weekend, “Boardwalk Empire” unexpectedly left the Emmys with five awards; which led all shows. Former “Boardwalk Empire” co-star Bobby Cannavale also upset several heavily favored performers to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama for his turn last season as Gyp Rosetti.

Today, HBO officially renewed “Boardwalk Empire” for a fifth season. In a brief statement, HBO’s President of Programming, Michael Lombardo said “Thanks to Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Howard Korder and their stellar team, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ remains in a class by itself.”

Only three episodes have been broadcast of the fourth season, but so far “Boardwalk Empire” is down to averaging 2.15 million viewers per episode for the first broadcast. However, “Boardwalk Empire” Season 4 is reportedly getting 7.5 million viewers per episode across all platforms; which seems to be a number that HBO is happy with.

“Boardwalk Empire” Season 5 will premiere in Fall 2014. The fourth season continues this Sunday.
