John Oliver Returns For ‘Community’ Season 5

In the pilot episode of “Community,” John Oliver portrayed Professor Ian Duncan, an instructor at Greendale Community College. Oliver recurred as Professor Duncan throughout the first and second seasons, but his character hasn’t appeared on-screen in years.

That’s going to change in a major way during “Community” Season 5. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oliver has signed a deal to reprise his role as Professor Duncan in at least six of the thirteen episodes during the new season. Oliver has recently finished a critically acclaimed stint as the guest host of “The Daily Show” during Jon Stewart’s extended break to direct his first movie, Rosewater. Oliver has been a correspondent and writer on “The Daily Show” since 2006.

Oliver also hosts “John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show” on Comedy Central and he has lent his voice to “Gravity Falls,” “Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja” and both of The Smurfs movies in addition appearing in “Important Things with Demetri Martin.” Oliver made his feature film debut in The Love Guru.

Rob Corddry will also return to “Community” as Jeff’s nemesis, Alan Connor, with “Breaking Bad” veteran Jonathan Banks and “Justified” co-star Walton Goggins set to make their “Community” debuts this season.

“Community” will return to NBC at midseason in 2014.
