John Oliver targeted Kimberly Guilfoyle amid allegations concerning her financial dealings and conduct as U.S. ambassador to Greece. The “Last Week Tonight” host mocked her alleged six-figure request for money from a Republican donor. The revelations also raised questions about Guilfoyle’s handling of her diplomatic role.
Donald Trump ally Kimberly Guilfoyle became the target of John Oliver’s latest political takedown
According to OK! Magazine, The Wall Street Journal reported that Guilfoyle allegedly asked Republican donor Eric Deters to pay $100,000 toward her American Express bill. Guilfoyle allegedly made the request six days before her confirmation as ambassador to Greece.
The report cited messages in which Guilfoyle allegedly asked Deters to arrange the payment discreetly. One message reportedly read, “Honey, please.”
Oliver mocked the exchange by sarcastically imitating the request, joking, “‘Honey, please send $100,000 to my credit card. And sweetie, don’t go on the news later to talk about it’.”
Meanwhile, Deters reportedly sought Guilfoyle’s help with several matters. He reportedly requested assistance for an IRS dispute and a malpractice case. He also reportedly sought help arranging media appearances and getting an original song to musician Kid Rock. Oliver also mocked the request, joking, “Do you know how bad a song has to be for it to be not good enough for Kid Rock?”
The comedian also revisited Guilfoyle’s 2020 speech at the Republican National Convention. He described her as having an “outdoor voice” and “cocaine eyes”. He later compared her to “a Disney animatronic whose battery is running out.”
Oliver also questioned Guilfoyle’s diplomatic role. He reacted critically to reports that she brought a registered lobbyist to meetings with foreign officials. “She hasn’t even been good at the easiest part of her job,” he said. “She’s basically just doing PR for America overseas.”
Guilfoyle’s lawyer has disputed the allegations and challenged the authenticity of the messages. Oliver’s segment added to the public criticism surrounding Guilfoyle’s alleged dealings with the donor.
