‘Man on Fire’ TV Series In Development

Nearly ten years after Denzel Washington starred in Tony Scott’s Man on Fire, John Creasy may live again on television.

According to Deadline, New Regency and 20th Century Fox TV are developing a “Man on Fire” TV series that would serve as a sequel of sorts to the 2004 Man on Fire film. In the movie, Washington played John Creasy, a burned out former CIA operative who became the bodyguard of a young girl named Pita (Dakota Fanning) whom Creasy later befriended. When Pita was kidnapped, Creasy went on a violent rampage against those responsible before sacrificing his life to see Pita returned safely to her mother.

In the proposed “Man on Fire” TV series, Creasy survived the events of the movie and he reunites with Pita 18 years later to take down the drug cartel responsible for kidnapping her years before.

It should be noted that Creasy also survived in the original “Man on Fire” novel by Philip Nicholson (who is better known by his pen name, A. J. Quinnell). Nicholson’s novel was adapted into a film twice, with Scott Glenn portraying Creasy in the 1987 version.

David DiGilio is set to write and executive produce the “Man on Fire” TV pilot; which does not currently have a network attached. DiGilio previously created the short lived ABC series, “Traveler.”
