Fox Starts ‘World War III’ With David Hayter

Back in 2011, David Hayter was attached to an adaptation of the comic book series, “The Damned” at Showtime. While that project doesn’t appear to be going forward, Hayter has found a new home on television.

Deadline is reporting that Fox has signed deal with Hayter for a “World War III” miniseries that chronicles “a perfect storm of world events places us in the center of a global battle which may bring the world as we know it to an end.”

Hayter will write the script and the miniseries bible in addition to serving as the showrunner and executive producer. Leslie Greif (“Hatfields & McCoys”) will also executive produce “World War III,” which will be produced by FX Productions.

Among video game fans, Hayter is best known as the voice of Solid Snake in the first four Metal Gear Solid video games. Hayter also worked on the screenplays for the first two X-Men films and the adaptation of Watchmen.

Fox has already lined up the “24: Live Another Day” miniseries to premiere in May, with M Knight Shyamalan’s “Wayward Pines” set to follow. If “World War III” gets the greenlight, the soonest it could premiere would likely be in either the fall or winter of 2014.
