‘Doctor Who’: Will The New Doctor Be Announced This Weekend?

At Comic-Con, CraveOnline caught up with “Doctor Who” showrunner Steven Moffat and asked him if the 12th Doctor had been cast. Moffat replied “The role hasn’t been cast. We’re in the early stages of that.” “I keep hearing stories that we’ve cast it already… but we haven’t,” laughed Moffat. “As if we could keep a secret!”

However, several outlets (including Doctor Who News) are reporting that the 12th Doctor has not only been cast, but he (or she) will get a big introduction to the public this Sunday on BBC One during a special called “Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor.”

Supposedly, the special will be hosted by Zoe Ball and it will feature interviews with former Doctors and companions before making the announcement. Current Doctor, Matt Smith and Moffat are both said to be among the guests.

During our interview with Moffat at Comic-Con, he shared his thoughts on the quality he wanted to see in the next Doctor. “Stardom,” said Moffat. “He’s a star part. That’s what it’s all about. And that actor or actress will define the part. So they have to… grab the part and treat it like they own it.”

If that person has already been found, then we’ll know the name of the next Doctor very soon.
