Calgary Flooding Forces Cancelation Of Concerts

The extensive flooding in Calgary is still causing a number of problems in the city, including the cancelation of several concerts associated with the Calgary Stampede.

Shows with Carly Rae Jepsen, Tim McGraw, the Dixie Chicks, and KISS have all been canceled because the Saddledome has been damaged from the flood waters. According to sources (CBC News) these shows will likely be rescheduled to a later date or all together refunded.

“We understand that this news is disappointing to fans and we’re disappointed too as we wanted to present our guests and fans with an awesome concert experience,” Stampede organizers wrote on Tuesday (CBC News). “Construction trades have been working very hard on a number of fronts simultaneously including addressing issues related to electrical power, potable water, air conditioning, air quality, and personal safety. Ultimately, due to the flood, it just isn’t feasible to go ahead.”

So far officials are estimating flood damage costs at $256.5 million (CBC News). The Calgary Stampede, which kicks off on Friday and is slated to run until July 14th, is still a go, but a number of events that are scheduled around the Stampede have either been postponed or canceled completely.
