It has been rumored, and now it is official. Today during an augmented and virtual reality conference (insert eye rolls here), Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook would be changing its company name to Meta. Facebook as a platform will remain Facebook, but the company itself will be changing over to its new name.
“Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said. Like they always say, you can polish up a turd, but a turd is still a turd.
Of course, nothing happens in the news without Twitter taking it to ask and everyone was quick with the memes to take Zuckerberg to task for today’s announcement.
