Mark Zuckerberg sparked a social media roast after his first sip of Guinness on camera looked more like a taste test gone wrong. The Meta CEO quickly shut down the jokes with a blunt response that made his viral moment even funnier.
Zuckerberg appeared alongside Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang on Stripe co-founder John Collison’s podcast, The Cheeky Pint. The pair brought a fresh keg of Dublin Guinness for the show’s signature pub-style conversation, but Zuckerberg’s facial expression soon overshadowed their AI discussion.
Mark Zuckerberg responds to online mockery with a simple explanation: “That’s just my face”
The 12-second clip showed Zuckerberg lifting his pint, taking a sip and immediately setting it down. He swirled the stout around his mouth before turning back to Wang, looking distinctly unsure about the drink. The video quickly attracted more than 13 million views and 100,000 likes.
X user Mark Malone posted the clip on Oct. 12 with the caption, “Mark Zuckerberg pretending to enjoy Guinness is my new favourite thing.” Another user later described drinking Guinness as “performative.” Zuckerberg replied on Oct. 13: “That’s just my face.”
The exchange only added fuel to the internet’s mockery. One user questioned Zuckerberg’s familiarity with beer, writing that he sipped Guinness, swirled it “like it’s a glass of wine,” then pushed the pint away. The user ended with a pointed question: “Has Zuck never had beer before?”
Still, the awkward moment offered only a brief detour from the podcast’s bigger conversation. Zuckerberg and Wang discussed Meta’s Muse Wonder launch and the future of personal AI agents. They also explored the creation of Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), the company’s talent reboot and its massive spending plans.
The episode description on YouTube said the pair discussed “what it really feels like to make a $100B+ CapEx commitment before knowing if the model will work.” Zuckerberg also spoke about using Muse to find obscure teas during the conversation.
For a tech chief accustomed to scrutiny, the Guinness clip offered a lighter kind of internet attention. His explanation was simple, but the internet clearly wasn’t ready to let that sip go.
