Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg Will Write and Direct ‘Invincible’

While the rest of the world goes consistently gaga over the AMC television series The Walking Dead, there was another sprawling world emerging from the mind of Robert Kirkman. Invincible is an epic saga of superheroic, intergalactic intrigue and good old-fashioned teen melodrama, and it’s been going strong now since 2003, earning scores of fans but somehow avoiding the entire superhero movie adaptation zeitgeist… until now.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Invincible is finally headed to the big screen, courtesy of writer/directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, two filmmakers best known for their broad comedies This Is the End and The Interview, but who also recently adapted the award-winning, hard-hitting and outright disturbing Vertigo comic book series Preacher for AMC. Robert Kirkman will produce the film, which is being developed at Universal.

The comic book series tells the story of Mark Grayson, the son of Earth’s mightiest hero, who starts developing superpowers of his own and sets out to make a name for himself. From these simple beginnings, Invincible spins out into a vast universe of heroes, villains and surprise revelations that could potentially lead to a lengthy franchise for Universal. Many of the heroes in Invincible could potentially carry their own feature film, including Atom Eve, Allen the Alien and the crimefighting team The Guardians of the Globe.

The news of an Invincible movie comes in the waning months of the comic book series, which is scheduled to conclude later this year with issue #144.
