Australian production collective The Avalanches have finally made good on their promises of new music, new track Frankie Sinatra dropping today, making it the first new music we’ve heard from the group since their debut Since I Left You was released in 2000. Talk about building anticipation amirite?
Confirming earlier today what we all expected, that this is but a taste of a forthcoming album, the boys have been a flurry today considering how little we’ve heard from them in the past decade and a half. Announcing the album will be titled Wildflower, as well as releasing a batshit insane video for the track along, album artwork and with an upcoming set at this year’s Splendour In The Grass, it’s fair to say The Avalanches are finally coming out of public hibernation.
Featuring rappers Danny Brown and MF Doom, Frankie Sinatra sees the band incorporating some Eastern European style Oompa band samples into their bouncy hip hop production style. Rumours of the track and Brown’s involvement having been doing the rounds since 2012, with Brown himself confirming in 2014 that he had worked on a song called “Frank Sinatra” with the band.
Still, even with four years of rumors, for a while there it looked like we might never have seen anything new from the band, sentiments they echoed in an interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe.
“There were lots of points where we though it wasn’t going to happen,” they said.
“It’s been finished for a while but it’s not real until people get to hear it.”
Passing the acid test of broadcast today then, it’s finally safe to say it’s here and it’s real.
As for the album, according to iTunes, it’s expected to be released on Friday 8th July. In the meantime, Frankie Sinatra is here the with the album art and full tracklist below.
