Metalocalypse Creator Says Final Season Won’t Happen

Fans of heavy metal and animation are gripped with despair today as Metalocalypse creator Brendon Small has revealed in an interview with Metal Insider that despite the Metalocalypse Now campaign and an offer of $2 million from investors to fund the show, network Adult Swim were not interested.

Why not just go to Netlfix? I hear you say? Well because Adult Swim own the right sof course, meaning there won’t be some miraculous revival ala Arrested Development.

Speaking of the network’s decision, Small explained that they were “kind of dangling this final thing after ‘Doomstar’ in front of me and then they said they didn’t want to do any more episodes. I asked why not and they said it was for financial reasons.”

The Metalocalypse Now fan campaign however saw Adult Swim’s interest piqued once more. “They got in touch with me and said, ‘Hey what can we do to save this show?'” Small recounts.

“They were saying that they didn’t have enough money, but I thought if we caused enough noise, some financial backers would show up.

“They actually did, and some people that were willing to offer just shy of $2 million stepped forward and said, ‘We would love to finance the show and do this final mini-series.’ And the network said, ‘No, we don’t want to do anymore ‘Metalocalypse’ at all.’ And that was the end of it,” he said.

Small is clearly a little upset (understandably) as are many fans of the show who are dying to get some closure on the show’s beloved characters such as Nathan Explosion, Skwisggar Skwigelf and everyone’s favourite cocaine addicted rock n roll clown Dr Rockso.

Still as you can imagine, the kind of person who creates a show like Metalocalypse isn’t likely to let a television network inhibit his creativity without a few choice words on the pitfalls of showbiz.

“It turns out Adult Swim doesn’t want anyone to have Metalocalypse, not even themselves. They just want old re-runs. They paid for it, so they can take their ball and go home with it, and that’s how show business works, for better or for worse. They said just a flat out no, and they get to do that. And if I had paid for the series, then I would get to make the decisions, but I didn’t pay for it.”

In the meantime why not lick this wound to your soul by revisiting the show’s amazing opening theme.
