Rihanna is rewarding high-reaching kids through a global scholarship program via her Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF). The effort will assist students aspiring to get a college education in the United States. The international initiative aims to provide “full scholarships” ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 to students in Jamaica, Cuba, Barbados, Brazil, Haiti, and Guyana, according to a press release.
“To be able to give the gift of an education is actually an honor,” Rihanna said in a statement to USA Today. “Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this.”
The reward and its renewal is contingent upon the student’s academic performance, maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. The award has the potential to be renewed every three years, or until a bachelor’s degree requirements are met.
Rihanna launched CLF in 2012, in honor of her grandparents, Clara, and Lionel Braithwaite. Her Diamond Ball raised $2 million in 2014 and $3 million in 2015 to help those in need, with programs in health, education, arts and culture.
