Supergirl Races The Flash In The First Poster For Their Crossover Episode

In the Silver Age of comics, it seemed like the Flash and Superman raced every other issue. But it really was one of the early geek debates in comics: who’s faster: the Flash or Superman? While the dour DC movies may never address that question, the lighthearted Supergirl series on CBS could actually pull it off!

CBS has released the first promo image for Supergirl’s upcoming crossover episode with the Flash, which recreates the iconic cover for Superman #199 by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson.

And for comparison’s sake, here’s that Superman # 199 cover.

But what could bring the Flash and Supergirl together for their crossover? Until recently, The Flash series had the perfect justification for the crossover: rifts to alternate Earths were all over Central City. But since Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) closed all of the rifts, all bets are off. The one thing we know for sure is that The Flash and Supergirl take place on alternate Earths, and Melissa Benoist’s Girl of Steel was briefly seen as the Flash traveled from Earth 1 to Earth 2.

CBS has released a synopsis  for the crossover episode, which sheds some light on the story:

“Worlds Finest” – Kara gains a new ally when the lightning-fast superhero The Flash (Grant Gustin) suddenly appears from an alternate universe and helps Kara battle Siobhan, aka Silver Banshee (Italia Ricci), and Livewire (Brit Morgan) in exchange for her help in finding a way to return him home.

Gustin is also slated to guest star on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow later this year. Between that show, Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash, Gustin will be the first actor to play the same DC hero across four different live-action series in the same year.

The Flash and Supergirl will meet in the Monday, March 28th episode of Supergirl.
