AMC Reveals Xander Berkeley’s Role on The Walking Dead

Negan is coming to The Walking Dead, but he’s not the only bad guy on the horizon. Last September, perennial TV villain Xander Berkeley was signed to a recurring role on The Walking Dead. And as it turns out, the rumors about his part were absolutely correct.

According to TVLine, Berkeley is playing Gregory, the leader of the Hilltop Colony, a commune of survivors that he treats like his personal cult. The character originated in Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s Walking Dead comic book series, which introduced Gregory in the early part of the conflict with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his group, The Survivors.

For comparison’s sake, here’s what Gregory looks like in The Walking Dead comic. Berkeley is a pretty good physical match for this character.

Just because Gregory is untrustworthy doesn’t mean that the Hilltop Colony is automatically another Woodbury. Paul Monroe a.k.a. “Jesus” (Tom Payne) is another member of the Hilltop Colony who is slated to be introduced in the second half of the sixth season, and he’s a decidedly more heroic character than Gregory.

On TV, Berkeley is best known for his roles on 24 and Nikita, and he recently appeared on Z00, 12 Monkeys, Salem, and Justified.

The Walking Dead Season 6 will resume on Sunday, February 14. Berkeley’s first episode of the series will likely be later in the season.
