Space’s The Expanse Premieres With Multi-Platform Digital Debut

Space just announced a ground-breaking multi-platform series premiere strategy for the new galactic drama The Expanse – beginning today, and nearly three weeks before its exclusive broadcast debut on Space on Monday, December 14th at 10pm, the premiere episode of this highly anticipated series is available for streaming on Space.ca, and Space’s Youtube channel and Facebook.

To amplify the launch strategy for The Expanse, Space has teamed up with Shazam for an exciting, Canadian-first initiative making the debut episode accessible via television integration within the popular mobile app. The partnership marks the first time ever in Canada that Shazam has premiered a full episode in advance of its television broadcast, and the second ever activation of its kind in North America. Viewers can access the premiere episode of The Expanse by activating a Shazam-enabled, Space-produced, on-air promo spot of the much-anticipated series.

Additionally, as a companion to this mind-bending sci-fi adventure, Space’s flagship series Innerspace delivers Innerspace: After The Expanse now available exclusively at Space.ca. Hosted by Innerspace’s Ajay Fry, Morgan Hoffman, and Teddy Wilson, the after-show features exclusive interviews with the cast, episode recaps, Canadian-exclusive sneak peeks, and more. The broadcast debut of Innerspace: After The Expanse also airs on Monday, December 14th at 11pm, following the television premiere of The Expanse, exclusively on Space.

“As viewing habits continue to evolve, Bell Media continues to explore innovative new ways to deliver programming to our viewers,” said Tracey Pearce, Senior Vice-President of Specialty and Pay at Bell Media, in a press release. “With its multi-platform premiere release, including a first-of-its-kind Canadian partnership with Shazam, and Innerspace’s brand new after-show, viewers have unparalleled access to this remarkable new series, The Expanse.”

Airing exclusively in Canada on Space, the 10-episode, one-hour drama The Expanse debuts with a two-night broadcast premiere event Monday, December 14th and Tuesday, December 15th at 10pm, before moving into its regular Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot beginning December 22nd.

Based on the international best-selling book series of the same name, The Expanse takes place 200 years in the future after humankind has colonized the solar system. Shot in Toronto, The Expanse stars Thomas Jane (Hung) as a hardened detective who must join together with a rogue ship’s captain (Steven Strait, Magic City) for what begins as the case of a missing young woman, and evolves into a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history. Emmy® winner and Oscar®-nominated Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog) also stars as a smart and cunning politician who has risen through the ranks of Earth’s governing body. Rounding out the principal cast are Dominique Tipper (Vampire Academy), Cas Anvar (Olympus), Wes Chatham (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay), and Florence Faivre (The Following). Guest stars in Season 1 include Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad), Paulo Costanzo (Royal Pains), and Jay Hernandez (Suicide Squad).
