Joe Quesada Denies Iron Fist TV Movie Rumors

Tomorrow, Netflix will debut Marvel’s Jessica Jones, the second of four original live-action Marvel superhero series. Daredevil was released earlier this year, and Luke Cage is in production for a 2016 release. But so far, there has been no public movement on Iron Fist. The title character hasn’t even been cast yet!

Recent rumors have suggested that the Iron Fist TV series would be scrapped in favor of a Punisher series on Netflix. Iron Fist was supposedly being reworked into an original TV movie for Netflix. But according to Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, the plans for Iron Fist’s show are still on.

While speaking to IGN, Quesada said “I’m pretty involved [with all of the Netflix shows]. I’m not on set everyday but I’m pretty involved. Iron Fist is being worked on, that’s all I can say.”

Quesada also explained the rationale behind using Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of The Defenders even though they aren’t part of the classic Defenders lineup.

“You have to understand, to the world at large, nobody knows who The Defenders are. So to take the concept, the name and the theme and apply it to this world feels wholly natural. Even when you look at the origins of the team and how the original book came together, it was just another super hero team that wasn’t the Avengers. We have a wonderful, concept behind why they’re this group and why they’re called The Defenders in this particular world.”

The Defenders miniseries is tentatively set for a 2017 release on Netflix. The Iron Fist series doesn’t currently have an announced release date.
