The Darkness Unveil the Music Video for New Christmas Single ‘I Am Santa’

The Darkness are making another foray into the annual race for Christmas number one with their latest single ‘I Am Santa,’ the successor to 2003’s ‘Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End).’

The band – whose last album Last Of Our Kind saw the band adopt a new “medieval rock” style, as it was described by frontman Justin Hawkins – were commended back in ’03 for being one of very few artists who bothered to continue producing festive singles, with the traditional British competition for Christmas number one since being largely dominated by X Factor victors and the occasional cringe-worthy “protest” campaign, such as when we were all forced to consider that we’d allowed Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing in the Name Of’ to reach number one on December 25th.

With ‘I Am Santa,’ The Darkness are providing the UK public with potentially one of the only Christmas-themed songs they’ll hear this holiday season. Whether that’s a good or a bad thing will be determined by your own ability to tolerate merriment:

The Darkness have not yet announced when the single will be released, though we imagine it will be to coincide with the Christmas weekly chart rundown that will take place on Sunday, December 20th.
