Everyone’s Hiding Something in These New ‘Star Wars’ Character Posters

Character posters can be one of the most presumptuous forms of movie marketing, especially if they’re for a new movie that nobody cares about yet. Why did a studio expect us to fall over ourselves in order to get a good look at the fourth or fifth lead in Dark Shadows? “Who the hell knows” is probably the right answer, but Disney has every right to play towards our collective enthusiasm for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Fans have been clamoring for this movie for years, and now they’re going nuts for the latest character posters released this morning, which feature returning heroes Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), new heroes Finn (John Boyega) and Rey (Daisy Ridley), and our probably-new villain Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

It’s an eclectic cast of characters, and they only seem to have two things in common. One, they’re all in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (duh), and two, they’re all hiding their right eyes. And why are they doing that?

“Who the hell knows?” is probably the right answer again. Don’t be surprised if die hard Star Wars fans decide to read a lot into this, and they may even be right to do so, but we suspect this is just a design quirk that someone at Disney thought looked really cool.

Take a look at all the new posters. Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out… seriously? You don’t know when Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out yet? (It’s December 18, 2015.)
