Star Wars Battlefront’s PS4 Commercial is a Thing of Nostalgic Beauty

Video game commercials that feature no gameplay footage are often rightly met with criticism, and while Sony’s official commercial for this holiday season advertises Star Wars Battlefront whilst featuring no details regarding the game itself, we can’t help but fall a little bit in love with it.

The commercial features a bored man at work, looking at an old R2-D2 figurine he keeps on his desk and reminiscing about his childhood, where he didn’t have to concern himself with adult responsibilities and instead raced around on a bicycle he’d made to look like an X-Wing. Seriously, this kid had some major craftsmanship skills. Look at this thing – it even has its own droid:

Needless to say, the commercial has a happy ending as the man gives up his life of making spreadsheets and working in an office which has a pretty envious view of the city, with him jumping out of a window and into a Starfighter, beginning his lifelong dream of becoming a soldier in a fictional universe. Of course, this commercial could be interpreted as the man committing suicide and being transported to some kind of Star Wars heaven, but that’s probably not the angle Sony was going for here.

For those of us who grew up with Star Wars and are therefore beyond excited for the release of Battlefront, this commercial does its job very well, even if leaving our respective jobs in order to play it until the end of time probably wouldn’t be wise.
