Syfy Renews Dark Matter and Killjoys

Next year, Dark Matter and Killjoys will be back on Syfy!

Earlier this morning, Syfy confirmed the renewals of both series, with Dark Matter getting a 13 episode second season, while Killjoys will have 10 new episodes in its second season. Both Dark Matter and Killjoys are original series produced in Canada by the Space Channel in association with Syfy.

Dark Matter is based on the Dark Horse Comics miniseries by Stargate veterans Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, who also oversee the TV series. Dark Matter follows a team of mercenaries who awaken from stasis to find that their memories have been wiped and their enemies have multiplied. The series stars Melissa O’Neil, Marc Bendavid, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr., Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross and Zoie Palmer.

Michelle Lovretta created Killjoys, an outer space adventure series that features Hannah John-Kamen, Luke Macfarlane and Aaron Ashmore as an intergalactic trio of bounty hunters. Killjoys averaged 1.5 million viewers on Syfy in its first season, while Dark Matter brought in slightly more viewers at 1.8 million.

Still up in the air is the fate of Defiance, one of Syfy’s flagship series that recently concluded its third season. Created in conjunction with Trion Worlds, Defiance takes place in the town formerly called St. Louis where humans and aliens attempt to live together.

Both Killjoys and Dark Matter are slated to return to Syfy in 2016, presumably in the summer.
