David de Gea’s expected transfer to Real Madrid has been cancelled, after issues with paperwork between the La Liga club and Manchester United caused the deal to fall through.
While it had been alleged that Manchester United had delayed the move until one minute until before Spain’s transfer window closed, Goal.com journalist Greg Stobart has now claimed that it has been confirmed to him that Real Madrid actually failed to register the player with the LFP, the sports association response for the two Spanish leagues.

So it seems that the blame leveled at Man U is unjustified, though it remains to be seen whether Madrid failing to register De Gea is a result of the English club being reluctant to agree to the signing.
With manager Louis van Gaal’s team struggling to impress in the opening matches of this current season, and with the club’s new goalkeeper Romero having performed poorly in their embarrassing start to the season, fans will likely be pleased to learn that one of their star players will remain with the club for the time being. However, this could certainly impact upon De Gea’s morale and his future performances with the club, given the high level of media coverage that surrounded the prospective deal and now the news that it has collapsed miserably.
