Annabeth Gish Signs on For The X-Files Revival

The X-Files is returning in January, and nearly everyone involved with the original series is slated to reprise their roles. And now we can add Annabeth Gish to the list of returning players.

Fox has announced that Gish will once again portray FBI Agent Monica Reyes in The X-Files miniseries. Gish made her first appearance on The X-Files during the eighth season and she was promoted to series regular for the ninth season as the new partner of Agent John Doggett, as played by Robert Patrick.

By that point, David Duchovny was out the door and the Doggett and Reyes pairing was moved to the forefront of The X-Files’ final season. However, the pair couldn’t completely recapture the old Mulder and Scully magic that Duchovny and his co-star, Gillian Anderson mastered. But Doggett and Reyes do have their fans. The series finale even suggested that Doggett and Reyes had deeper romantic feelings for each other.

However, Patrick has made it clear that he has no intention of coming back to the X-Files anytime soon. During a recent interview with The Mary Sue, Patrick said “I’m not going to do it. …I’m very happy with the job I have. I’m on CBS — that’s a different network — and I’m content and happy and I don’t really see a reason to go and revisit that show. It’s not that I wouldn’t be interested … I just don’t know what the reason is to both at the same time.”

While Patrick is sitting out this revival, Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis, Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood and Dean Haglund are all confirmed to be back for the miniseries. The currently announced lineup of guest stars includes Annet Mahendru, Joel McHale, Kumail Nanjiani, Robbie Amell, and Lauren Ambrose.

The X-Files revival will premiere on Fox on Sunday, January 24 after the NFC Championship game.
