Bloodborne Takes Around 40 Hours to Complete, Slightly Shorter than Dark Souls

Tired of all the short-lived AAA games so far this generation? So are we. Apparently, From Software is, too.

Bloodborne is just over a week from launch and it’s already showing promise. First it was the outstanding launch trailer that blew us away. Now, it’s the impressions of those who got their hands on it early that has us ripe with anticipation.

According to impressions from a couple outlets Bloodborne is around 40 hours in length. If true, this figure puts it at around the length of the two Dark Souls games, maybe a little less—Dark Souls 2 took me 50 hours to finish. Whatever the case may be, it’s a healthy length that is yet to be seen from a AAA current-gen exclusive.

Though, it’s important to take into consideration that Bloodborne is, like its predecessors, a very tough game. You’re going to die, and probably a lot. So, there’s going to be deviation in game time between players, with those who know how to play intelligently and cautiously beating it with a completion time on the lower end of the spectrum.

Among the things learned from early impressions is the fact that the game’s absence of shields being a dramatic change from the established Souls formula. As a player who tends to play Knight classes, I’m excited, although slightly intimidated.

Bloodborne is also a beautiful game, perhaps even better-looking than you’re expecting. As if the launch trailer seen below didn’t make that obvious.

We’ll be starting our playthrough of Bloodborne this Wednesday. Assuming things go as planned, you’ll be able to read our final verdict of the game on embargo (March 23rd at 7:00PM PST).
