Uncharted 4 Delayed Until 2016 Due to it “Growing More Ambitious”

Uncharted 4 has been delayed until spring 2016, leaving the PS4’s 2015 now looking a little barren.

The game’s directors Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann confirmed the delay on the official PlayStation Blog, saying: “It’s become clear to us that this game is much more ambitious than we originally envisioned.

“So we’ve made the difficult choice of pushing the game’s release date. Giving us a few extra months will make certain that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End not only meets the team’s high standards, but the high standards that gamers have come to expect from a Naughty Dog title.”

While it’s great to see a developer taking their time with a game and not simply rushing it to market as is so often the case, this undoubtedly leaves the PS4’s year lacking many major exclusives. Aside from Bloodborne, which releases later this month, the PS4 will now be relying upon the success of its multi-platform titles to carry it through the year, while Microsoft still has the upcoming release of Halo 5: Guardians, Crackdown and the mysterious Scalebound to pad out the rest of 2015.

While Straley and Druckmann stated that they knew the “extra would be excruciating” for Uncharted fans, they insisted that “the team at Naughty Dog will be heads down working through 2015 making sure that Nathan Drake’s story gets the closure it deserves.”

Sony is now lacking a big Christmas release, with rumors circulating that an Uncharted trilogy collection, similar to Halo‘s The Master Chief Collection on the Xbox One, could be in the works.
