State of Decay Coming to the Xbox One, Promises a “Bigger Zombie Apocalypse”

We’re not sure how much bigger an apocalypse can get, what with it being the end of the world and all, but State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition promises to be grander in scale than it was in its Xbox 360/PC incarnations when it comes to the Xbox One.

Newly announced for Microsoft’s current-gen console, State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition will feature the base game with a 1080p lick of paint, along with both of the game’s DLC packages. The first DLC, Breakdown, places the game in a true sandbox, simply tasking players with surviving for as long as possible. It’s the game’s DayZ-esque mode, if you will. The second DLC, Lifeline, sees you playing as members of US Army unit Greyhound One in a more story-based game type.

The Xbox One edition comes with the original game’s DLC packs, Breakdown and Lifeline.

Aside from the bundled-in DLC content, State of Decay‘s Xbox One edition has also seen developer Undead Labs make some changes to the core experience. Added animations promise to make the game look more realistic than before, while an improved user interface makes managing your inventory far simpler. They’ve also thrown in a knife to ensure that if your melee weapon breaks, you’re still armed against the brain-munching masses.

In order to entice old State of Decay players to the Year-One Survival Edition, Undead Labs and Microsoft are offering a 33% discount to anyone who purchased the original game on the Xbox 360 (tough luck, PC gamers). Returning players will also receive an exclusive character in the form of the “sword-wielding Indian-American badass,” Gurubani.

State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition will be available on the Xbox One in Spring 2015.
