Selfie sticks have been banned from a number of UK music venues due to the apparent health risk they pose.
The invention, which allows narcissists users to attach their smartphone to an elongated stick in order to take a selfie of themselves from a distance, have been banned from multiple major British music venues following health and safety concerns. These venues include the O2 Academy Brixton, London’s O2 Arena and the SSE Wembley Arena, with the O2 Arena releasing a statement saying: “The O2 do not allow selfie sticks into the arena due to safety considerations. We welcome selfies, but please leave the stick at home.”
Selfie sticks were surprisingly popular in 2014.
Aside from the alleged safety hazards the devices pose (perhaps gig-goers were becoming too enraged when taking less than flattering photos of themselves), the selfie stick should rightfully be banned from music venues because it’s a fucking stupid and outright disrespectful thing to have on your person when you’re going to watch live music. Seriously, if you take a selfie stick to a gig, you’re basically saying “screw the music, I’m just here to snag another Facebook profile picture”.

Speaking to NME Magazine, a spokesperson for the Wembley SSE Arena said: “The sticks might mean you are refused entry to the venue so our advice is don’t bring them and stick with the tried and tested use of an arm.”
If you can go one night without having to have photographic proof of you enjoying yourself, then a gig should be that night. No one wants to see an iPhone 6 held aloft in front of the stage, obscuring their view of the performer. Put those damned things away.
