Watch The Epic ‘The Colbert Report’ Star-Studded Musical Finale

The end is finally here. Stephen Colbert closed up shop with the final episode of “The Colbert Report” last night, and the event was a spectacle of send-offs, familiar faces and celebrations.

Ending the show with a sing-along of the Vera Lynn classic “We’ll Meet Again,” Colbert first welcomed his old boss Jon Stewart, then ushered in a star-studded barrage of guests including James Franco, Willie Nelson, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Cyndi Lauper, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Randy Newman, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, Barry Manilow, Bill Clinton, Katie Couric, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and so many others. It was emotional, it was exuberant, it was completely freakin’ awesome.

The sing-along ended, and Colbert did what any talk-show hero riding off into the proverbial sunset would do: he took off in a sleigh with Santa, Abe Lincoln and Alex Trebek.

We’ll see him soon as he takes his new place as host of “The Late Show,” but for one final time, we got to experience the magnificence and subversive-snark genius of “The Colbert Report”. And some asshole decided to cut a bunch of onions nearby as the show’s final credits rolled to Neutral Milk Hotel’s Colbert-approved “Holland, 1945.”

Lots of onions.
