Death Threats Made to Halo: The Master Chief Collection Director Following Online Problems

Death threats have been made to Halo’s Franchise Director Frank O’Connor.

The 343 Industries employee has claimed that the troubles players have had with the game’s multiplayer component has led to a number of credible threats being made to him, forcing him to back away from posting on online forum NeoGAF, a site where he has been avidly responding to fans of the series prior to and following the game’s launch.

O’Connor was one of the first 343 employees to apologize over Halo: MCC’s matchmaking troubles, which the developer is still attempting to fix, though his position in the public eye has led to a big enough backlash that he is now being forced to look out for his own safety, rather than continuing to share a welcome open dialogue with consumers.

Taking to NeoGAF, O’Connor wrote: “I am not posting much for a couple of reasons, one, too busy trying to fix. Two, well past a couple of dozen believable (I don’t personally believe them, but better safe than sorry) death threats.”

He added: “Apologies. We’ll keep communicating via Halo Waypoint.”

Halo Waypoint is the official online forum for the Halo series, and at the moment it’s largely being used a central hub to collate users’ complaints with the game as 343 continue to attempt to fix it. However, regardless of the issues with the game, there is absolutely no justification for sending death threats to O’Connor or any of his co-workers. We hope the seemingly intense amount of abuse thrown in O’Connor’s direction will eventually simmer down as he continues to work with his team to improve the game.
