Exclusive: Far Cry 4 Quest for Everest Debuts with Epic Introduction

Instead of just releasing Far Cry 4 to the masses this holiday season, Ubisoft has decided to go bigger and bring its sense of adventure to life.

23-year-old William Cruz began hiking to Everest a week ago, not only for personal satisfaction, but to create a new world record. That record is for playing a video game at the highest altitude ever. Standing confidently at 29,029 feet, Mount Everest is the Earth’s tallest mountain, and if things go as planned Cruz will be playing Far Cry 4 at its 17,500 altitude Everest Base Summit in just a few days. With miles upon miles of walking up slopes at low oxygen levels, it’s nothing to frown upon.

The Far Cry series has gained a reputation for its massive open-worlds featuring exotic locations, including Far Cry 3‘s captivating tropical islands. Far Cry 4 will be set in the fictional region of Kyrat, a location in Nepal, one of the two countries that borders Mount Everest’s legendary features. Such is the inspiration for this one of a kind promotion called Quest for Everest.

The first of what will be five videos cataloging Cruz’ travels has debuted today, exclusively on CraveOnline. In this video, you’ll meet Cruz and see some of his initial travels before ascending the mountain. Future videos will also be available exclusively on CraveOnline.

Cruz hasn’t finished his journey, and still has some harrowing challenges ahead. You can keep up with his progress on the Quest for Everest website. As of today, he is less than 600 meters from his destination.

Far Cry 4 will release on November 18th for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. You can read more on the official website.
