Mariachi El Bronx Return With ‘New Beat’ (Free Download)

On the heels of their crushingly awesome fourth LP, Los Angeles hardcore champions The Bronx have once again taken a leap down the mariachi-infused rabbit hole that found Los Angeles hardcore demons reaching new heights of exposure and fandom. They return today with “New Beat,” a free download from KCRW as a taste of their upcoming third LP as Mariachi El Bronx.

El Bronx isn’t a sonic shower of punk nihilism; it’s a flamboyant step outside the box of what anyone might expect from one of the hardest-hitting hardcore punk bands to ever come out of Los Angeles, but the concept is a sensible one.

“Mariachi is every bit as much of a soundtrack to southern California as punk,” explains frontman Matt Caughthran, and he’s right; with an exploding hispanic population, El Bronx taps into an educated celebration of the many facets of mariachi music, the most well-known being Norteno as well as Jorocho, Wasteka, Bolero and Corridos.

Recorded over a two-week period in a countryside studio removed from outside influence, III will arrive November 4th. Learn more and pre-order at the band’s official site.
