Bethesda Releases Over an Hour of The Evil Within Gameplay

In preparation for launch, Bethesda has published a video of The Evil Within which shows the game in action for over an hour. The game is played by Bethesda Vice President Pete Hines on the PS4.

The Evil Within is a third-person survival horror game where you play as Detective Sebastian Castellanos. After losing consciousness early in the game, he awakens to find that the world isn’t what it was like before. Instead, it is ravaged by creatures who would like nothing more than to destroy him.

In this gameplay demo, Pete Hines goes through a few early areas of the game, where combat and stealth are introduced. You will notice that unlike many modern horror games which are ditching weapons for a more run-away style of approach, The Evil Within has several powerful weapons. A shotgun, revolver, axe, and more can be used to survive the game’s deadly foes. Ammunition will be scarce, but at least you’ll able to fend for yourself. This is a game that’s much more akin to something like Resident Evil than Silent Hill, which should give it a relatively wide audience.

Unlike most gameplay demos which are short in nature, this footage gives some great insight into what it’s like to play the game. Frankly, the gameplay looks quite good, although the graphics show hints of cross-generation support.

The Evil Within will release on October 14th for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
