2 Dead as Glastonbury Festival Kicks Off

Two festivalgoes have reportedly died at this year’s Glastonbury festival, with one drug-related fatality, according to police.

According to the Telegraph, a 67-year-old woman died at the fest Wednesday night (June 25) from what is believed to be natural causes. A 26 year-old male reportedly died after taking the drug ketamine, according to local police.

The young Reading man died on Friday morning, the first official day of music at the Glastonbury fest in Somerset. The man was reportedly taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary with a “life-threatening condition” on Wednesday, and later died.

2nd EDC Death Confirmed: Festival Fatalities On The Rise

In a statement, police said: “A man has died following a suspected reaction to ketamine. The man was taken ill overnight on Wednesday into Thursday and was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary. Unfortunately he died earlier today. The family of the man had been informed of his condition yesterday. His death is not considered suspicious. At this stage we believe this was an individual reaction to ketamine and was not from a bad batch of the drug.”

Of all the drugs one can do at a festival, ketamine is very high on the “bad ideas” list. Nicknamed Special K, the powerful anaesthetic and is used as a tranquilizer by vets, and completely inhibits an individual’s motor skills and can greatly affect heart rate and automatic bodily function such as breathing.

Police warned festivalgoers on Twitter on Thursday: “Please don’t take drugs at Glasto.”

Local police have already listed 85 crimes reported within two days, down 30% from last year.
