Call of Duty 2014 World Reveal Scheduled for May 4th

As is usually the case in May, Activision has prepared a world reveal for its next installment of Call of Duty. On May 4th we’ll find out exactly what’s coming later this year. To this point, we haven’t been alerted to what its name is or what its ‘new era’ next-gen focus means for the series.

There’s a website already up which has a severely distorted image of what could end up being the game’s box art. This image appears to have an American soldier in a desert location, hinting at Modern Warfare roots.

Activision previously shared a single image of the game which similarly had an American soldier in a modern uniform. Although we expect the game to have a similar setting to Modern Warfare, there’s a good probabilty that it’ll have a different sub-series title.

Call of Duty was recently moved from a two-year cycle with two development teams to a three-year cycle with, you guessed it, three development teams. These teams include the now famous Infinity Ward and Treyarch, as well as the newly introduced Sledgehammer Games. Sledgehammer previously assisted with development of the single-player campaign in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, so they’re an experienced team. But with Call of Duty needing vitality more than ever before, the challenge of finding a way to make the yearly installment franchise feel fresh will be no easy task. Hopefully next-gen consoles have brought enough potential to summon new ideas.
