Hype Check: AC/DC Not Retiring, Planning New Music

Social media has been mourning the split of Australian rock legends AC/DC all week, with rumors circling that illness has caused a complete cease to band activity. Many tributes are undoubtedly in draft mode on music blogs around the world, and speculation that guitarist Malcolm Young is in declining health has reached fevered levels of hyperbole.

There’s a catch, however: AC/DC are not retiring, breaking up or dying. Frontman Brian Johnson has denied the allegations to the Daily Telegraph, and announced plans for the band to work on new music in May.

“We are definitely getting together in May in Vancouver,” Johnson revealed. “We’re going to pick up some guitars, have a plonk, and see if anybody has got any tunes or ideas. If anything happens, we’ll record it.”

However, the singer did confirm the ill health of one band member. “I wouldn’t like to say anything either way about the future. I’m not ruling anything out. One of the boys has a debilitating illness, but I don’t want to say too much about it. He is very proud and private, a wonderful chap. We’ve been pals for 35 years and I look up to him very much,” he added.

Here’s to hoping!
