Watch: Birds Of Tokyo On Kimmel

Birds Of Tokyo wrapped a promo run in the US by nailing ‘Laterns’ on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week.

In the States for the past few weeks promoting March Fires, Birds Of Tokyo took their hit 2013 anthem on Kimmel.

Birds have just a few US dates left after a run that has seen the Perth band hit up SXSW, work of a lot of West Coast radio, accidentally leaving drummer Adam Watson behind on a drive from Knoxville to Nashville and keyboardist Glenn Sarangapany suffering third degree burns from a hot pipe moments before heading onstage for a gig in NYC.

“The song ‘Lanterns’ has taken here on radio and it’s taken right across the country so we’re here effectively supporting the record and supporting the song doing a lot of promo touring, a lot of showcasing,” frontman Ian Kenny told Crave in a recent interview.

‘Lanterns’ dominated Aussie radio last year, earning the title of the most played song nationwide in the process. The single recently cracked the Top 20 at Adult Alternative and is expected to do even better when March Fires finally receives a US release.

“They’re all excited about (Laterns) because for some reason they’re getting something very fresh and new about it and I think that’s because of what’s happening here on American radio. Sometimes the same sort of things just get circled round and round. It’s exciting to hear that people at radio are going ‘wow, there’s something about this song we’re finding really intriguing and want to get behind’.”

Kenny will be back in Australia in the coming weeks to tour with his other band, Karnivool, with the Groovin’ The Moo festival before heading back to the US for a yet-to-be-announced headline tour.
