Deep Down Delayed to Push PS4 Hardware Specs

Deep Down was supposed to launch for the PS4 later this month in Japan, but has been moved. It’s for a good reason, though.

Capcom’s Kazunori Sagiura said to Dengeki Online in an interview regarding Deep Down:

I think we’ll offer more information to everyone after the Summer, so you’ll have to wait beyond the previous release date of February 22nd.

He explained the reason for the delay:

We don’t want to risk being told, “This could have been done on the PS4”, so we want to use the additional time to fully utilize the PS4 hardware.

Deep Down was one of the most noteworthy games shown at the PS4’s launch. It’s an online dungeon crawler with a free-to-play model. With Dark Souls style combat and sweet gear to earn, it’s the sort of game the PS4 could really use in 2014.

Game delays seem to be a trend right now, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Pushing a game out the door (i.e. Battlefield 4) can prove disastrous. The cost to spend additional time on a game might be substantial, but an unfinished game is a formula for disaster.

We’re really excited to play Deep Down. While it might not have an international version confirmed, the recent trademark leak is enough for us to feel confident that we’ll eventually be able to play it without learning Japanese.
