Amazon Buys Killer Instinct Developer, Microsoft Responds

Amazon has acquired Killer Instinct and Strider developer Double Helix.

The deal made between both parties was for “talent and IP”, Techcrunch has reported. Amazon released the following statement regarding the acquisition: “Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers.”

However, Microsoft has responded to questions regarding the future of Killer Instinct on the Xbox One, saying: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Double Helix and wish them success in their next endeavour. We want all of our loyal fans to know that the Killer Instinct team at Microsoft is not changing and that the franchise will remain with Microsoft Studios.

“We remain dedicated to delivering a great experience and plan to announce our new development partner soon. We’re excited about the future of this popular franchise.”

Rumours have widely circulated that Amazon is planning to make a big step into the gaming market with a console of its own, which will allow users to stream and download games along with music, movies and TV content. Amazon has not confirmed whether Double Helix is working on games for this alleged new console.
